GOAL! Bødo Glimt 3-0 Sporting (Høgh, 71)

The Danish striker fires home from close range on another fine night at home for the Norwegians.

GOAL! PSG 3-2 Chelsea (Vitinha, 74)

It’s another goalkeeping error in the Champions League. Jörgensen passes the ball straight to Barcola. The PSG winger cuts back to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia who plays it to Vitinha in turn. The Portuguese midfield flicks the ball up with his first touch and lobs the ball over the keeper.

PSG 2-2 Chelsea 69 min: The game has slowed down slightly. The players probably need a breather after such an intense start. Luckily for Chelsea, Luis Enrique has substituted Dembélé for Lee Kang-In.

Bodø/Glimt 2-0 Sporting 60 min: Luis Suárez shoots towards Nikita Haikin’s near post but the keeper saves it with his legs. Sporting need to get the ball to their striker more often. He’s scored 31 goals in 39 games so far this season.

Bodø/Glimt 2-0 Sporting 59 min: Bodø/Glimt almost have a third. The ball bounces around the box after Fredrik Andre Bjorkan’s cross.

GOAL! PSG 2-2 Chelsea (Fernandez, 57)

What a goal! Nuno Mendes gives the ball away carelessly to Pedro Neto. The Chelsea winger is away and there’s no catching him. He drives to the byline and cuts the ball back for Enzo Fernandez. The Argentinian midfielder calmly passes the ball into the top corner.

PSG 2-1 Chelsea 51 min: Jörgensen has remained composed with the ball at his feet so far. He’s got his team out of a trouble with a few timely interventions.

GOAL! Coventry 3-0 Preston North End (Grimes, 51)

Matt Grimes converts his penalty to give Coventry an unassailable lead.

Second half

The whistles blow to announce the second half. Here we go again!

A message from Kári Tulinius:

double quotation markI feel like I spent the years 2017 through 2024 watching Ousmane Dembélé make the wrong decision over and over again when he had a chance to score. To see him race up the field with the ball, seeming to know exactly what he will do and then do it, makes those years of frustration dissipate like a dream upon waking.

GOAL! PSG 2-1 Chelsea (Dembélé, 40)

What a goal! Chelsea have a huge chance at one end with Cole Palmer side footing a cut back down to the keeper’s left. Then within seconds counter through Ousmane Dembélé. The French winger is racing away with only Cucurella and Wesley Fofana in front of him. He turns Fofana inside and out before sticking the ball into the bottom corner.

GOAL! Bodø/Glimt 1-0 Sporting (Fet, 32)

Sondre Brunstad Fet gives the hosts the lead, cooly converting the penalty and sending Rui Silva the wrong way in the process. It’s what Bodø/Glimt have deserved after the last 10 minutes of football.

PSG 1-0 Chelsea 25 min: Barcola jinks left and right on the edge of the box. He curls a shot towards the far corner and Jörgensen tips it round the post.

PSG 1-0 Chelsea 22 min: Chelsea are probing and causing PSG a couple of problems at the back. Marc Cucurella clips a ball into the box and João Pedro heads it into the keeper’s arms.

PSG 1-0 Chelsea 18 min: It’s been end to end so far. Chelsea are a threat on the counter with the pace of Pedro Neto and the trickery of Cole Palmer.

PSG 1-0 Chelsea 17 min: Chelsea break away down the other side of the pitch. Pedro Neto is far too quick for Marquinhos as he races into the box. The winger tries to cut it back for a teammate but Nuno Mendes connects with the ball and almost deflects it into his own net. Matvei Safonov spares any blushes with a good save.

PSG 1-0 Chelsea 15 min: PSG are all over Chelsea. Dembélé gets into the box and rifles a shot towards goal. It stings Jörgensen’s gloves as he tips the ball onto the post.

PSG 1-0 Chelsea 13 min: Cole Palmer turns fantastically away from his defender and plays the ball through to João Pedro. The Brazilian forward plays it back to Enzo Fernandez but the midfielder blazes the ball over the bar.

GOAL! PSG 1-0 Chelsea (Barcola, 9)

Great start for PSG! Ousmane Dembélé floats a ball to the back post from the right. João Neves leaps highest to head it down to Bradley Barcola who smashes the ball past a helpless Filip Jörgensen.

Bodø/Glimt 0-0 Sporting 6 min: Sporting are dominating the early proceedings. They’re passing the ball around well on the artificial pitch as they try to get used to the conditions.

PSG 0-0 Chelsea 3 min: Chelsea have the first chance of the game. Reece James delivers a delicious ball across the six yard box but it’s just out of the reach of João Pedro and Pedro Neto.

Peep!

Both matches are under way. Here we go!

The players are heading out to the pitch for kick off. Only a couple of minutes to go.

Meanwhile, Sporting are unbeaten in their last 12 games in all competitions but they haven’t won an away game at this stage of the Champions League or beyond since 2005. The Sporting manager Rui Borges spoke to journalists before the game.

double quotation markFor me, [Bodø/Glimt’s presence in the last 16] is not in the least surprising. Last season they reached the semi-finals of the Europa League, and this term they’ve already beaten some great sides. We are two teams with enormous ambition, a little different in terms of approach. Two teams determined to make history.

Bodø/Glimt will be unfazed by their tie against Sporting. The Bodø/Glimt manager Kjetil Knutsen spoke to the press before the game.

double quotation markWe have had good results against teams from Portugal, that’s for sure, but this is a different team and we know we are playing against a top, top European side. We know all about them and they know all about us; there are no secrets.

Away from the Champions League, there are a number of EFL games to look forward to, including Coventry v Preston. Stay tuned for half time and full time updates.

João Pedro and Cole Palmer were at the heart of Chelsea’s Club World Cup win last summer. João Pedro has since hit his stride under Liam Rosenior while Palmer is back after a groin injury but not yet at his best. Jacob Steinberg reckons the pair will be crucial in tonight’s game. Read his piece below.

Preamble

Hello and welcome to another Champions League clockwatch. Tonight we’re following Paris Saint-Germain v Chelsea at the Parc des Princes and Bodø/Glimt v Sporting at Aspmyra Stadion.

Chelsea beat PSG 3-0 in the last meeting between the two sides. The fiery final of the Club World Cup ended with João Neves receiving a red card for pulling Marc Cucurella’s hair and Luis Enrique (lightly) slapping João Pedro in the aftermath of the game. Enrique said: “there is no feeling of revenge for us” but I wonder what the players think.

Bodø/Glimt have shocked everyone in the Champions League this season. The Champions League debutants were winless in their first six group stage games before historic wins against Manchester City, Atlético Madrid and Inter. Sporting enjoyed a much more straightforward group phase, finishing in the top eight and beating PSG on the way. But can they do it on a cold night in the Arctic Circle?

Join me for updates on both games. As always, send me an email with your thoughts. Kick off is at 8pm GMT.
