Share your views on a Tory MP’s proposal to deport large numbers of legally settled UK immigrants

A Conservative MP tipped as a future party leader has proposed that large numbers of legally settled UK immigrants must be deported, in order to ensure the country is mostly “culturally coherent”.

The Tory leader, Kemi Badenoch, has been urged to condemn the comments by Katie Lam, a Home Office shadow minister and a whip for the party.

Labour has called on the Conservatives to clarify their plans to strip thousands of people of the right to remain permanently in the UK. Conservatives have not yet clarified central aspects of the policy including what benefits would count towards losing indefinite leave to remain, and if families would be split up.

Lam told the Sunday Times: “There are also a large number of people in this country who came here legally, but in effect shouldn’t have been able to do so. It’s not the fault of the individuals who came here, they just shouldn’t have been able to do so.

“They will also need to go home. What that will leave is a mostly but not entirely culturally coherent group of people.”

We’re interested to hear from people in the UK with indefinite leave to remain who could be affected by this new policy proposal, and how they feel about it.
