TV tonight: Alan Carr’s big competition for secret geniuses

1 hour ago 4

Secret Genius

9pm, Channel 4

Alan Carr and “responsible adult” Susie Dent team up to find some of the thousands of undiscovered geniuses in the UK. “[They] just think you’re a minimum wage moron,” says hotel receptionist/drag queen CJ, who takes part in the first heat with 11 other “ordinary” people who have sky-high IQs, including a shepherd who taught her sheepdog sign language and a tree surgeon with four GCSEs. They’re a really likable bunch as they work through tricky tasks (one contestant successfully relies on the Cha Cha Slide) and viewers can play along. Carr is, of course, a beam of light as he delivers the news of who’s going through to the finals in Oxford. Let the battle of the brains begin! Hollie Richardson

Confessions of a Killer

9pm, BBC Two

This is the astonishing case of Northern Ireland dentist Colin Howell, who confessed to killing his wife Lesley and Trevor Buchanan, the husband of his lover Hazel – 18 years after it was ruled as a double suicide. In the second of this two-parter, Colin’s police tapes are played and he details how he did it with the co-convicted Hazel. But what, or who, prompted him to hand himself in to the police?” HR

“I just killed a colleague called Alex in a medical space emergency …” Fortunately, Alex is a mannequin, and this was a simulation. But in the concluding part of this lovely documentary, Bourgeois begins to truly understand the pressures of becoming an astronaut: “Space travel asks you to sever the threads that tether you to the people that you love.” Ali Catterall

After its audacious halfway twist, the second series of the urbane spy thriller where everyone seems to have at least two aliases reaches its finale. With a political coup brewing in Colombia, how far is Tom Hiddleston’s rogue agent prepared to go to bring down his cold-blooded nemesis, “Gilberto Hanson”, once and for all? Graeme Virtue

The Beckham Feud: Truth & Lies

9pm, Channel 5

Families, eh? Brand Beckham shot into crisis mode when eldest son Brooklyn “broke his silence” on Instagram with stories claiming a rift between his parents and his wife Nicole Peltz Beckham. Here’s everything you need to know about the first big celebrity gossip of the year – minus the wedding party video we all want to see. HR

Mock the Week

9pm, TLC

This topical, satirical panel show was much mourned when the BBC axed it in 2022, after 17 years on air. Now TLC has revived it, with host Dara Ó Briain and regular panellist Hugh Dennis both returning. It’s just like old times, in fact, except the half-hour episodes have now been extended to a full hour. Ellen E Jones
