Harry on Freya

What were you hoping for?
Some tasty food, and a nice evening with good company to block out the Sunday scaries.

First impressions?
Warm, engaging and a great listener.

What did you talk about?
Blood oranges. Fancy beans. May being the best month of the year. The film Hamnet. The Edinburgh fringe. Our poor timekeeping.

Most awkward moment?
The waiter having to come back three times before we’d finally chosen our drinks.

Good table manners?
They were great.

Q&A

Fancy a blind date?

Show

Blind date is Saturday’s dating column: every week, two strangers are paired up for dinner and drinks, and then spill the beans to us, answering a set of questions. This runs, with a photograph we take of each dater before the date, in Saturday magazine (in the UK) and online at theguardian.com every Saturday. It’s been running since 2009 – you can read all about how we put it together here.

What questions will I be asked?
We ask about age, location, occupation, hobbies, interests and the type of person you are looking to meet. If you do not think these questions cover everything you would like to know, tell us what’s on your mind.

Can I choose who I match with?
No, it’s a blind date! But we do ask you a bit about your interests, preferences, etc – the more you tell us, the better the match is likely to be.

Can I pick the photograph?
No, but don't worry: we'll choose the nicest ones.

What personal details will appear?
Your first name, job and age.

How should I answer?
Honestly but respectfully. Be mindful of how it will read to your date, and that Blind date reaches a large audience, in print and online.

Will I see the other person’s answers?
No. We may edit yours and theirs for a range of reasons, including length, and we may ask you for more details.

Will you find me The One?
We’ll try! Marriage! Babies!

Can I do it in my home town?
Only if it’s in the UK. Many of our applicants live in London, but we would love to hear from people living elsewhere.

Best thing about Freya?
She is very enthusiastic about all her interests and happy to delve into any or all of them.

Would you introduce Freya to your friends?
Definitely.

Describe Freya in three words
Thoughtful, friendly, articulate.

What do you think Freya made of you?
Kind, interested, and maybe even funny.

Did you go on somewhere?
Only for a little wander around Bristol harbour. It was a Sunday night so most places were closed.

Did you kiss?
Just a hug goodbye.

If you could change one thing about the evening what would it be?
To have ordered more food.

Marks out of 10?
8.

Would you meet again?
Yes. Numbers have been exchanged and suggestions of going to a gig or the cinema have been floated.

What were you hoping for?
Someone with similar interests who I could see live music and laugh with.

First impressions?
I could tell we were going to click right away. Good hair and clothes too.

What did you talk about?
Rural v city living. Our kitchen experiments. Walking – not hiking! Unsuccessful solo travel.

Most awkward moment?
Probably when Harry went to the loo, and as I was the only person in the restaurant, all the waiters came over wanting to know how the blind date was going.

Good table manners?
Yes.

Best thing about Harry?
His passion for his interests. And his smile.

Would you introduce Harry to your friends?
Definitely. I feel as if he’d get on with most people.

Describe Harry in three words
Real, curious, thoughtful.

What do you think Harry made of you?
Probably a nervous chatterer. But hopefully I came across as kind.

Did you go on somewhere?
A walk round the harbour in the rain.

And … did you kiss?
No.

If you could change one thing about the evening what would it be?
Not much at all. It would have been nice to have some evening sunshine, but hey, it’s February.

Marks out of 10?
I’m rating the date not the person – 9.

Would you meet again?
I hope we do. We exchanged numbers.
