West Kilbride, North Ayrshire
Law Castle is a 15th-century, fully restored medieval tower house set against the dramatic backdrop of the North Ayrshire coast. It was commissioned in 1468 as a wedding present for James II of Scotland’s daughter Mary Stuart who was marrying Thomas Boyd, Earl of Arran. It was a short-lived union. He wasn’t murdered but accused of treason and banished from the castle (and the land), with the marriage annulled. Hopefully, the sale of this six-bedroom, four-bathroom home will not involve trickery and deception. £1m. Savills, 0141 222 5875
