Louis Britton scored twice as Weston-super-Mare booked their spot in the third round of the FA Cup for the first time with a 2-0 win at fellow National League South side Chelmsford. To compound Chelmsford’s misery, Taylor Clark was shown a red card late on, 13 minutes after coming off the bench, for a dangerous high tackle.

Cheltenham avoided a Cup shock after twice coming from a goal behind before scoring four times in the final half-hour to see off non-league Buxton 6-2.

George Ward struck to give Buxton a 2-1 half-time lead, after Tai Sodje’s opener was cancelled out by Isaac Hutchinson, but substitute Robbie Cundy levelled before the hour. It was one-way traffic from then on as Jordan Thomas scored twice, with Hutchinson getting his second and Ethon Archer also scoring.

There was almost a shock at Sutton United, where the National League side were seconds away from beating Shrewsbury only to be denied by Ismeal Kabila’s stoppage-time equaliser. Then early in extra time, with both sides already down to 10 men, substitute John Marquis hit a winner for Shrewsbury before Sutton were reduced to nine men and the League Two side held on to win 2-1.

Jack Senior’s last-minute strike guided Doncaster to a 2-1 win at 10-man Chesterfield, while Fleetwood were unable to hang on to leads against Luton in a 2-2 draw, but overcame Jack Wilshere’s side 4-2 on penalties.

Bolton came unstuck at Swindon, who cruised to a 4-0 victory thanks to Aaron Drinan’s hat-trick, capped by an astonishing 30-yard lob, with Joe Snowdon also on the scoresheet.

Grimsby gained revenge for losing to Wealdstone in last year’s first round by trouncing them 4-0, with Jaze Kabia scoring twice, and MK Dons overcame Oldham 3-1.

Jack Aitchison’s double helped Exeter forget about their financial troubles in a 4-0 thrashing of Wycombe while Patrick Kelly’s second-half strike helped Barnsley edge out Peterborough 1-0.

Ben Waine scored as Port Vale beat Bristol Rovers 1-0 and Mansfield defeated Accrington Stanley 3-1 on penalties after a 2-2 draw. Wigan and Cambridge also needed spot-kicks to get past Barrow and Stockport respectively.

On Sunday the National League side Boreham Wood eased past Newport County of League Two 3-0 to reach the third round of the FA Cup. The hosts went ahead after 30 minutes through a sweet Jeff King volley, with Regan Booty soon adding a second from close range, before Matt Rush’s emphatic finish sealed it. Macclesfield of National League North won 3-1 at Slough after extra time to make Monday’s third-round draw.
