Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau have launched their relationship on Instagram, after the singer posted a photo of the pair smiling cheek to cheek and a video of them eating sushi together while in Japan.
Perry’s post appeared to confirm the pair are in a relationship, after months of speculation about a possible romance between her and the former Canadian prime minister.
The selfie was part of a carousel of photos and videos a trip to Japan, posted on Saturday to the singer’s account, which has 202 million followers.
Perry captioned the series “tokyo times on tour and more”, followed by a smiling face and several emojis, including flowers and a red heart.
The post comes after Trudeau reshared a photo on X on Thursday of the pair posing with Japan’s former prime minister, Fumio Kishida, and his wife, Yuko.
When resharing the post, Trudeau wrote: “Great to see you @kishida230. Katy and I were so glad to have the chance to sit down with you and Yuko.”
The “hard launch” of Perry and Trudeau’s relationship has been met with a range of comments online.
One fan commented on Instagram: “OH CANADA!!! MAKING IT OFFICIAL!!!”
Another, also on Instagram, wrote: “Your happiness is our happiness. All the love to you! 🥹❤️”
Neither Perry nor Trudeau have publicly commented on their relationship, but the Instagram confirmation followed months of public interest in the pair.
In July, Perry and Trudeau were spotted sharing a dinner date together in Montreal, before Trudeau was seen singing his heart out to the song Firework at Perry’s concert two days later.
They made their first public appearance together in October, when the pair were photographed holding hands after attending a cabaret show in Paris, in celebration of the singer’s 41st birthday.
Trudeau served as the Canadian prime minister from 2015 to 2025, as leader of the Liberal Party, before he announced his resignation earlier this year.
Perry is a 13-time Grammy award nominee who has released seven studio albums, with hit songs that include California Gurls, Hot n Cold and Roar.
